Job search – Where to Begin

First of all, you should try to understand your own strengths and where your skills lie. You could begin by using a tool called S.W.O.T this allows us to take an internal look at ourselves. From there we can understand what we are good and what areas we may need to work on.
S.W.O.T is an anagram for

  • S-Strength
  • W-Weaknesses
  • O-Opportunities
  • T-Threats

Below is an example of a S.W.O.T Analysis you can do on yourself for job searching.

Job Search S.W.O.T Analysis

By using the S.W.O.T tool we can see where our skills lie, what areas need improvements, what obstacles are in our way and resources that may aid us. In the example above this person has qualities that would make them a good employee, but they lack certain skills. However, there are ways that they can improve and combat these issues. Such as volunteering or signing up to a training provider. Barriers are something to be considered but again can be overcome, using the right opportunities.

The next thing you should do is set aside time each day to look for a job. You can also use the support of a training provider. Here at Skills Exchange Scio, we are a charity that offers FREE programmes to help enable people gain sustainable employment.
